Welcome to the Devonport House Project

The University of Greenwich is delighted to have secured planning permission for its proposals to restore and revitalise the Grade II listed Devonport House. This project represents a significant step forward in delivering highly efficient and sustainable new teaching and learning facilities at our Greenwich campus, which will become a vibrant hub for the university and the wider community.

The project will deliver wide-ranging benefits for the Greenwich community, including:

Enhancing the area immediately around Devonport House to improve access to the university’s facilities and the wider World Heritage Site.

Creating a highly efficient and sustainable new building that includes measures to significantly reduce energy use.

Creating new space for the university and the community, with shared spaces for the Greenwich community on the ground floor including a café.

Restoring and revitalising the Grade II listed Devonport House, repairing and reinstating many of the key listed features of the original building.

Providing local job opportunities during construction which will deliver economic benefits to local businesses.

How can I get involved?

Following our public consultation in September 2024, the project team has considered and responded to feedback received and has submitted a planning application to the Royal Borough of Greenwich (RBG).

Enabling works are now underway on site to prepare for main construction later this year. You may notice increased survey and groundwork activity around Devonport House. These early works are essential in preparing the site for the main phase of construction, which is due to start later this year.

Thank you to everyone who engaged with us on the proposals. To see how we have responded to your feedback, please visit our feedback page.

About the University of Greenwich

The University of Greenwich is a place with no limits. For over 130 years the university has been helping students explore their talents and achieve their personal and academic goals. The university is embedded within the local communities at its three campuses and places the highest value of social impact with every activity it undertakes.

The University of Greenwich is integral to the UK’s academic landscape - from a World Heritage Site on the banks of the Thames, through leafy Eltham, to the Royal Navy dockyards at Chatham, our campuses combine modern facilities with historic locations.

The University of Greenwich will soon begin a modernisation and renewal programme of some buildings and surrounding spaces, across its campuses. The Devonport House project is an important part of this programme to provide modern, state-of-the-art teaching and learning facilities, whilst respecting the heritage, character and locations of campus surroundings.
